The best tips for your motorcycle trips to hot climates

We know that the roads to the coast in Colombia are good (few holes and paved). Furthermore, we motorcyclists love them because they are full of straights and have very beautiful landscapes. However, traveling to places with warm climates is a challenge because we often feel very hot when we ride. But, like any trip we make on our motorcycle, we have to be prepared and protected against any new developments we find along the way. However, John Doe will give you the advice you need to have a safe and enjoyable adventure to warm climates.

1- Avoid the consumption of alcohol, coffee and sugary drinks

We know that it is tempting, especially during hot days, to have a beer. However, since you are going to drive your motorcycle, you cannot drive under the influence of alcohol. The same temptation occurs when we want to drink a snack or a soda and this is wrong if you want to stay hydrated. We explain the reasons. These three drinks are diuretics and what causes us to lose fluids faster. The only thing you should drink is water and if possible mix it with electrolytes because when we sweat we lose salts and minerals. To prevent dehydration and its effects (headaches, delirium, cramps, dizziness and chills), the best option is to hydrate with water plus electrolytes.

2- Visor and sun protection

Driving in hot climates involves driving with the sun in front or to the sides, which is very annoying. Make sure you choose a helmet with an integrated sun visor or one that has a dark visor, both with UV protection, to protect you from those rays. This will not only protect you from the sun's rays, but will improve your visibility on the road. Also, remember to put sunscreen on your face, body and arms to prevent burns.

3- Protective equipment

Whenever you go out riding a motorcycle you should use protective equipment. Remember to wear a helmet that is certified and allows ventilation to keep your head cool. Likewise, wear a jacket, ideally one that is perforated so you can breathe. At John Doe we have the Technical XTM ® , the Flight and the Storm.

The gloves, like the jacket, should be perforated so that your fingers can breathe and not sweat too much on the way. You should also look for comfortable pants for hot weather that are certified (with protectors in the hip and knee area). Likewise, they must be made of materials that do not allow abrasions or burns. Learn more about John Doe pants and gloves .

4- Food

It is vital to eat. If you go out in the morning, have a light breakfast and if you can, include a multivitamin. A great option is to eat bananas because they contain potassium, a mineral that we sweat in the heat. Never skip a meal, be it lunch or dinner because you will get to your destination faster. Load up on snacks for the road and the best options are pistachios or mixed nuts because they help you replenish energy and electrolytes.

5- Stop

We are always in a hurry and we want to get to our destination as quickly as possible. But when we travel to places with high temperatures, it is recommended to stop, stretch the muscles and drink water to hydrate the body. Our bike will also appreciate stopping and cooling down a little.

6- Avoid going out in high temperatures

This is obvious, but many of us like to get up early and face the hottest time of the day. To avoid this, leave in the early morning to avoid the sun or another option is to travel at night, but be careful because there is less visibility.
